Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble nutrient found in some foods. It acts as an antioxidant in the body, helping to protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals. When applied topically, vitamin C can help fight free radicals, boost skin-plumping collagen, and even out skin tone. One of vitamin C’s main benefits is its function as an antioxidant. Normal day-to-day exposure to the natural environment and its influences can wreak havoc on our skin. Free radicals are inherently unstable molecules that damage cells, promoting skin dullness, and wrinkles. Vitamin C acts as a protective shield against free radicals. Collagen gives our skin support and structure, and as it degrades with age. Vitamin C is a necessary co-factor for building collagen, and it also helps even skin tone.
AHA Fruit Acids
AHA fruit acid is a concentrated blend of five botanical extracts: bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange, and lemon. These extracts contain several naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids. Lactic Acid 28-32% highly effective moisturiser, Glycolic Acid 12-17% skin softening, Citric Acid 2-6% stimulates collagen synthesis, Malic Acid 1% max boosts skin elasticity, Tartaric Acid 1% max also boosts skin elasticity.
Alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to promote smoother, younger looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal. When combined they weaken the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. With the weakened dead skin cells, they can then be shed much easier which means fresher, smoother, younger looking skin. This also allows nutrients from the other ingredients in the cream to be absorbed better and utilised more effectively.
